Robin Hood targets poverty in New York City by finding and funding the best and most effective programs and partnering with them to maximize results.

100% of all donations go directly to programs helping New Yorkers:

“We believe the urgent need in New York’s poor communities requires us to put every dollar out on the streets helping people and not in an endowment. At Robin Hood, 100% not only refers to the value of your contribution, but also to what we expect from ourselves and from the programs we support. 100% — nothing less — is what it takes to make a difference in the lives of New York City’s poor.”

They attack Poverty at its Roots:

“Our philosophy is simple: to significantly affect people living in poverty you have to attack its root causes. That’s why Robin Hood focuses on poverty prevention through programs in early childhood, youth, education, jobs and economic security. And, because we can’t turn our backs on those living and suffering in poverty, we also fund basic survival programs in health care, hunger, housing and domestic violence.”

Aid other organizations who have a common goal; even after they invest in them:

“Before investing in a program, Robin Hood reviews its strategy, scrutinizes its financial statements, evaluates its management teams, and conducts multiple visits. But that’s just for starters. Where most funders leave off, Robin Hood begins. We protect and leverage our charitable investments with top notch management and technical assistance. There are times when a Robin Hood-supported program desperately needs something that seems impossible… that’s when Robin Hood steps in and gets everything donated.”

Analyze results of programs/initiatives & improve:

“Robin Hood is results-focused. We hold the programs we support completely accountable for their performance. We work with them to set specific goals. They’re expected to meet these goals. And they’re measured against these goals, and other mutually agreed-upon benchmarks, every year by independent evaluators.”

The Urban Dove is dedicated to enriching the lives of New York City’s at-risk youth by creating a supportive, positive environment where kids can develop the life skills and confidence they need to reach their full potential.

Urban Dove was founded in 1998 with the belief that all children, regardless of their economic or social background, should be taught the critical skills needed to succeed, and be given the support, encouragement, and opportunity to practice those skills in the real world. Toward that end, Urban Dove has dedicated itself to enriching the lives of New York City’s at-risk youth by creating a supportive, positive place where kids can develop these critical life-skills and build the confidence they need to reach their full potential.

Programs

Hi-Risers

The HiRisers after-school program, run for youth by youth, trains high school students to work with elementary and middle school students teaching them literacy, life-skills and sports. Through unique, interactive workshops, and by using sports as a “hands-on” learning tool, the high school Youth Staff build literacy skills and teach the important life-skills of communication, teamwork and leadership.

College All-Stars

The College All-Stars is a year-round program designed to help New York City public high school students make their college dream a reality. The program targets high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, and is designed to educate them and their families on the entire college application process – from success in high school to obtaining a degree in the field of their choice.

Lenox Project

Each August, Urban Dove takes a group of HiRisers kids up to Camp Lenox in Otis, MA, for a fun and exciting week of summer camp. All HiRisers participants are invited to camp, with the Youth Staff serving as the camp counselors. The week features lots of firsts – first splashes in a lake, first trips on a boat, first times away from home- and is an experience most of these kids would otherwise not have.

Net Gain Project

Net Gain provides free court space for 16 New York City public schools that do not have their own gyms, allowing more than 400 students to participate in after-school sports. In collaboration with Youth, I.N.C. and Basketball City, Urban Dove arranges for the schools’ home games and also organizes community service projects for the student-athletes to help teach teamwork, sportsmanship and responsibility.
